One takes this test to teach others to drive. ADI test consists of three tests:
You book and take them as a single test. You must pass both parts to pass the whole test.
The questions in the theory test are based on:
You have 1 hour and 30 minutes to answer 100 multiple-choice questions.
There are 25 questions in each of these 4 categories:
A question and several possible answers appear on a screen. You have to select the right answer.
You must score 80% in each band and achieve an overall mark of 85% to pass. You’ll fail if you get an overall score of 85 or higher, but don’t score high enough in each of the 4 categories.
You can finish the multiple-choice questions part when you’ve answered all of the questions. You don’t have to use the full 1 hour and 30 minutes.
You can have a break of up to 3 minutes before the hazard perception test starts.
To pass this test, you need to score at least 57 marks out of 75. It contains 14 one-minute video clips filmed from the driver’s point of view. Each video has a hazard that you must recognise, and one video will contain two hazards.
If you pass, you’ll get a pass certificate letter if you pass the test. You’ll need this when you book and take your approved driving instructor (ADI) part 2 test. Your pass certificate number lasts for 2 years. You must qualify as an ADI in that time, otherwise, you’ll have to start the application process again.
If you fail, you’ll get a letter at the test centre. It’ll tell you which parts you didn’t score enough points on so you know what to practise. You must book and take the full test again. You have to wait at least 3 working days before taking your test again.
At UK Drive Test, you will find three sections to explore:
Under the Study section, you can learn all about (try your free traffic signs here). These are important to learn because they are part of your main driving test.
You can choose either the Practice Theory Test or the Mock Theory Test. (try your free mock theory test here). The questions in these tests are updated regularly from the DVSA question-bank.
Major topics covered in this test are alertness, vehicle safety and handling, safety margins, hazard awareness, vulnerable road users, motorway rules and rules of the road, road and traffic signs, documents, accidents, and vehicle loading.
Practice tests are free and can be used in two ways: firstly, as topic-wise tests where you can choose one or more topics and secondly, as quick tests where questions come in randomly.
Mock tests give you the actual exam-experience with the help of friendly instructions, real-time explanations and hints, and the latest test format. To get access to these tests, you can buy one of the three ADI Test plans based on how much time you need to prepare.
When you purchase the ADI plan, you also get access to the Hazard Perception test absolutely free . This unlocks all the available video clips, explanations, tests, and performance analysis tools.
